What is a UUID v4?
A v4 UUID is built almost entirely from random bits — 122 of its 128 — so the odds of two ever colliding are astronomically small. That's why it's the standard choice for database keys, request IDs, and test fixtures.
What is a UUID v7, and why is it sortable?
A v7 UUID starts with a millisecond timestamp, so IDs created later sort after earlier ones — ideal for database primary keys, where ordered inserts keep indexes happy. The timestamps come from your device clock.
Is a GUID the same as a UUID?
Yes — GUID is Microsoft's name for a UUID, and the terms are used interchangeably. This tool generates and validates both under either name.
